Hello Parents, Guardians, and Friends,
I want to thank you all for visiting my website and becoming more connected with your second grader's teacher and technology. It is my hope that this website is helpful, informative, up to date, and interactive.
A little about me. My name is Romona Matthews and I am the proud mother if 2 extremely handsome young men who are 20 and 28 years old. I am originally from Niagara Falls, New York (which is about 700 miles from here). I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2006 where I taught 1st grade. When I moved here Christy Reid's Family and my church Nations Ford Community Church were the only people I knew here. Over time, I eventually made many more friends and then my youngest son moved here with me.
I love living here in Charlotte and I was soo happy to attend the job fair when Mr. Bohlen hired me on the spot.
Back in Niagara Falls after I graduated with my Masters Degree in 2003, and after returning back to work from losing my grandmother, I taught 3rd grade for 6 months and then became a first grade permanent substitute. When I relocated, I taught first grade at Oakdale until 2010. In 2011 I began teaching 3rd grade. A few months after that on February 27th, our school experienced a sudden, great loss of one of our students Matthew Starnes. On the exact same date February 27, 2013, I experienced a deep personal loss of my mother. My second year of teaching 3rd grade I was given an opportunity to "loop" with my students and teach them in 4th grade. I absolutely loved it!! My time in 4th grade had expired and I was moved to teach Kindergarten. I know, that is a lot of movement...lol. I taught years of kindergarten and this year I was assigned to second grade math. I love teaching, therefore the grade levels that I have been moved to is not an issue. I also have the opportunity twice a year to instruct students at UNCC in Education in Psychology with a focus on classroom management.
I have many personal and professional goals for my future as well as ones for my children and my students, which I hope that we can all have a chance to share.
